“My mother sometimes made us a treat with rice mar. Do you know this one? When you’re done cooking the rice, if you strain the excess liquid, don’t throw it away. That’s the mar. Add warm milk and sugar.” This is interesting. I may have to try it. 😋🇬🇾

I hope you enjoy it. Add a piece of cinnamon stick.

Coming from Jamaican ancestry my memory rice is usually in the form of rice and peas, or occasionally boiled rice with the trimmings.

I never knew the house to be without a big bag of rice.

I fell in love with Jamaican rice and peas with pimento. I’d eat it with akee and salt fish.

💚🌿💋☀️

Now I’m craving Jamaican food.

Rice is such a staple for us, I can’t imagine being without it.

Uff! Rice is an emotion, indeed! I love how it "glues" me to you as well. Lovely read as usual, and I'm so hungry now. I gotta try your Ma's spin on eating rice with coconut oil, onions, lime and chillies... Sounds wicked good!

G, rice is a wonderful glue. Thank you for your friendship. A small bowl of rice with fish curry. SIGHHH. Or fried rice. I save left over whole grain rice to add in soup. When you make that oil and rice, please tell me how it tasted. I’ve never had it. 😃
